The meninges is an anatomical homogenous complex [complexus homogeneus anatomicus ] which consists of two organs, the dura mater [pachymeninx ] that is a membrane organ [organum membrana ] and the leptomeningeal sac [saccus leptomeningeus ] that is an organ with cavity [organum cum cavitam], together with adjacent spaces.

The traditional term is meninges at plural, but actually this entity is a cluster of organs and spaces and could be better renamed complexus meningeus at singular. A composite singular term is to be preferred to a plural name. This later name becomes the universal term. Actually, the traditional term is kept as the official term. However, when term transformations are necessary, the universal term is used. |
